To save our infant democracy Vice President Dr Waheed should no longer stay with the dictatorship established by Mohamed Nasheed and MDP.

Crack down on opponents including the recent violent end brought to a peaceful demonstration that injured opposition Parliament member’s and constant attacks on journalists and the private media clearly confirms that President Nasheed is an insecure Dictator. Not to mention the violent MDP bands of activists affiliated with drugs many of them ex-prisoners harassing the opposition and anyone who dare to express against the government.
The MDP and President Nasheed’s rule over the past two years has left a bitter taste in the citizen’s mouth, when he broke all the promises; to fire public service employees, raise the prices of every basic service including electricity. People who are unable to cope have the services denied. He displayed a clear mandate to stay in power at any cost when he got rid of each and every one of the leaders of the political parties that formed the coalition that enabled him to win the Presidential election in the second round. The last man still standing from the coalition is the Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik.
Now; the Vice President is under constant persecutions with huge social media campaigns lead by activists defaming him on a daily basis. Similarly the President has his rowdy crowd out side Dr Waheed’s official residence on the attack, monitoring his every move. Failed and very insecure the President and the MDP punters accuse every political opponent of trying to bring a revolution.
The Maldives Human Rights Commission on the day the UNHRC gave a chair to the President in return for accepting Guantanamo Bay prisoners called on the government to show respect and mercy on the citizen’s basic right to political freedom and civil liberties.
Everybody outside MDP is regarded an enemy. No body is safe from the political persecutions. The Vice President these days is regarded as the number one enemy, as the President and his supporters want him to stay at the decorative job without responsibility in order to prolong their rule. Denied and treated like an enemy, the Vice president few months ago spilled the bean. All responsibilities stripped by the paranoid President, on the advice of the uneducated, insecure personalities typical to the MDP top that surround the President; he has been treated like an outcast.
Last night when he met the top leaders from the main opposition party DRP to discuss the political future of the country, a new wave of attacks started.
President Nasheed and the MDP leaders are the one responsible for creating a hostile and unwelcome environment for him from the day of the election. Even though it is very clear that he cannot simply go on this way they expect him to. An educated man who maintained his integrity through successful jobs in the international arena; it is past the time for him to detach himself and also his party from this dictatorship.
The MDP leadership and its uneducated members as political appointees at the moment take the state coffers home as salaries, leaving nothing for the people and their communities. Since Mohamed Nasheed became the President the permanent hold on infra structure development means hospitals and schools are in crisis. The well established education system and healthcare system of the country is destroyed by the regime for good. The President does not listen to anyone, but his minority followers that belong to his party MDP, and although he still rules in the name of MDP coalition, it is the MDP minority that acquired only; some 25000 votes in the first round that is ruling the nation.
Betrayed and scorned DQP leader and JP leader who helped the MDP and President Nasheed to acquire power in 2008 left within days of the Presidential election. The way Nasheed is adopting every autocratic activist callings that comes out of the party thugs tent during their party gatherings clearly indicates that trying to become the President of a democracy is the last thing on Nasheed’s mind, but rather he is and always will be the President of the party he formed in the name of MDP and it is time for Waheed to move on.
Waheed is a capable man and the days he spend within this dictatorship is ruining his political future for life.
