Now the Brave Maldives Police Officers are leading the rebellion against the Dictatorship of Mohamed Nasheed and his unlawful acts against the State.

Not even in his wildest did Dictator Nasheed think that he would be disobeyed by the Officers in the Maldives Police Service. He though just like the Military under Moosa Ali Jaleel’s command the Police will obey his every command and will keep on carrying out the illegal arrests and unlawful crackdown on peaceful protestors.

Tonight however the Maldives Police Service has shown that they are made of something else, that the blue blood that runs through their vein is only patriotic and will never be swayed by evil dictators of the day like Mohamed Nasheed.

The Maldives Police rose against Nasheed’s Dictatorship; rebelled against his commands and said they will no longer engage in any kind of illegal activities on his command. The Military thought just like the way they cattle and beat up the Maldivian people, they can do the same against the Police revolutionaries but they couldn’t. The numbers that joined the rebellion grew as the day developed and now the Maldives Police Officers in their blue Uniform have filled the Maldives Independent Square.

The Military several times tried using their weapons on the Police officials, but they were held back by their own defected Military officials. Dictator Nasheed thought he could get away with the Military arresting anyone he likes, just like the way he got the Military to arrest Judges of the Judiciary and hold them in solitary confinement. However today was a wakeup call?

The Police revolutionaries are protected by the Civilians protesting in the area calling for the restoration of a civilian government, release of Judge Abdulla as well as pleading with the Military personals to stand on the path of the truth. The Military officials that defected barricaded the Military’s attempt to attack the Police rebellions. Therefore they were unable to do anything.

Then Dictator thought that they will be very scared if his very dictatorial but small frame appears in the Independent Square. He came to order them but pleaded with them, but before he could utter anymore words, the Police revolutionaries started chanting for his resignation.

Dictator Nasheed got so angry he started retorting back with a huge scowl on his face, but then the Military General and Dictator’s Eunuch Moosa Ali Jaleel and Tholhath the crony Military Minister appointed by him dragged him away into the Military HQ.

We are with you all the way our blooded brothers and sisters in the Police Service. Fight the people’s cause and show that you will never engage in an unlawful act no matter what’s at stake.

Political Situation in Maldives deteriorates with more than 1000 Police officers joining the protest and calling for Dictator Nasheed to step down

Dictator Nasheed adamant on taking over the Maldives Judiciary locked up Judges about 3 weeks ago and incited anti-government protests. The Protestors were at first attacked and arrested by the Military along with help from the Maldives Police.

However the Maldives Police finally have said enough is enough and they refused to protect the Dictatorship of the man who uses the Police and the Military to imprison opposition Politicians unsuspecting civilians and most of all Judges of the Independent Power the Judiciary.
The Maldives Police tonight while the protest was in full swing, refused to obey the Military’s order to arrest and attack civilians.

Tonight more than thousand officers have gathered and are sitting in the Independent Square calling for Dictator Nasheed’s resignation. Dictator Nasheed is said to be in hiding surrounded by the Military that is behaving more like a Paramilitary thug force owned by him.

The bravery of the Maldives Police Service is commendable. Every time Dictator Nasheed wants something he incites violence by using the Military to arrest his perceived enemies. Finally could this be the last time ever he does that? We hope so.

Unconfirmed news claims that the Police Commissioner and the Assistant Commissioner has resigned and are joining the protesting Police Officers while the Military is arresting Police Officers and Civilian Protestors alike.

We hope and pray that this Dictatorship will end so that we can breathe peacefully in the Maldives. Having no government is better than a government of terrorist Nasheed run by his corrupted crony MDP thugs consisting of ex-prisoners porn stars and thieves. They have degraded the image of the country with their drinking, drug use and engage in illicit sexual behaviours.

The peace loving country of Maldives is commending the Police Officers that defected and rose against the Dictatorship having said enough is enough.

Maldives suffers the consequences of Dictator Mohamed Nasheed’s failed state. The Military along with the ruling party thugs take law in their hands and have arrested more than 100 Police officers keeping them hostage inside the MDP tent while their thugs put fire to the Private TV Chanel VTV’s building

The Maldives Military along with the ruling party thugs are attacking peaceful protestors and Officers of the Maldives Police Service while the thugs are putting fire to anywhere they can, mainly premises that belong to the main opposition parties.

Brutal Military attack on the Maldives Police Officers started tonight with the Military accusing the Police Officers of defection when they refused to beat, pepper spray and arrest peaceful protestors. The assault carried on the peaceful protestors that participated in the protests against the government for the last 3 weeks led to victims fighting for their lives in ICU units across various hospitals in the Capital Male’.

Some of the victims include, Amnesty International’s Prisoner of Conscience Journalist Sandhaanu Ahamaidhee, who as we speak remains fighting for his life in the ICU connected to a ventilator after been attacked by 3 Military officers with a poisonous spray.

We are calling the Military to stop their assault on an independent force the Maldives Police Service and also to end their violent crackdown on peaceful protestors to please a Dictator that is worse than Hitler, and has only his self interest in mind..

Ruling MDP thugs and Military are trying to protect the failed rule of Dictator Mohamed Nasheed. He has openly declared that he will act outside the Constitution use power of decree to do whatever he likes and no one can imagine what evil he do to protect his self-interests. After naming the Maldives Judiciary with the intention of taking control over the Judiciary; he arrested Judge Abdulla with the help of the Military. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Maldives Judiciary except that he cannot buy the Judges the way he bought MP’s to secure the Parliament.

Nasheed’s whole family for generation have been terrorists. His grandfather was the terrorist that imported a gun to kill the first President of the second Republic Ibrahim Nasir. His father and his uncle masterminded the attempted Coup that killed 20 Maldivians in 1988. He himself is the terrorist that tried to blow the famous Conference whole Dharubaaruge during the SAARC conference in 1991.

The man is a terrorist, his party is filled with thugs and ex-prisoners and drug addicts. His government from top to bottom were engaged in bearing themselves in the World Wide Web engaging in sex with themselves, while to keep his regime going he has sold all the state assets including the Maldives National Airport that is leading to the death of Tourism due to airlines stopping their flights to Maldives due to the hiked price.

We are calling on international intervention in bringing a peaceful transition to the country and an immediate instalment of a transitional government. Meanwhile we are calling on the military to stop behaving like eunuch slaves to terrorist Nasheed and his terrorist group MDP and save the country from this highly violent anarchical terrorist group.

Maldives Military goes made; attacks the Maldives Police Service Officers active in tonight’s anti-government protests and are arresting every Police officers they can put their hands on

Dictator Nasheed is using the Maldives Military to attack the Maldives Police service and the Military have so far have arrested 20 Police Officers.

While attempting to arrest any they can lay their own hands on, the Military is using extreme force on both the Maldives Police Officers as well as the peaceful protestors. At the same time the ruling MDP thugs are attacking the anti-government protestors with rocks, huge chunks of wood etc.

According to local news, the Police refused to use force and beat the protestors up as much as the Military wanted. The Military accused them of defection and have ordered the arrest of all Police officers.

Nasheed has established Military rule from day one and Moosa Ali Jameel the head of the army has been the protector of the Dictatorship using violence to stop protests; arrest of Judges, and politicians as per Nasheed’s wishes.

Tonight the country lands in anarchy with his dictatorial protectors attacking the Police and unarmed Civilian. Tonight the streets of the Capital Male’ is a horror scene that we Maldivian never have and never wanted to see, but Dictator Mohamed Nasheed is refusing to release the Judges he arrested although he himself to a foreign journalist from Reuters confessed that his arrest and continued solitary confinement of Judge Abdulla is Human Rights abuse of the most serious sort.

We are calling the people not to engage in violence and stay out of areas where the ruling MDP Party thugs and the Military are active. News emerged that the ruling MDP thugs just now attacked the Assistant Police Commissioner’s House and put fire to his house while his family is still inside; while they have put fire to VTV the largest privately owned TV network.

Sunday 5 February 2012

A man who promised to be a democratic leader keeps Judges under Military arrest and continues with the suspension of Judges Salaries, while employed gangs of ex-prisoners to attack peaceful protestors

Maldives wasted three years under President Nasheed, with the media, parliament, and the executive all under his control. As if it is not enough now he is trying to claim the Judiciary by any mean possible.

Politically Nasheed has no ideology, economically he has destroyed the nation by selling the nation’s biggest asset, the national airport to the vulturistic GMR a company from India that has tripled ground handling charges and fuel sure charges to a level, Airlines such as Qatar, Sri Lankan and even Thomson are stopping their flights to Maldives; therefore indirectly damaging the country’s basic economic activity the Tourism Sector.

The man has his uncles, nephews and nieces running the show for him, often engaging in the abuse of state funds to maintain control within and also maintain their high maintenance life styles.

Nasheed belongs to a family that has been engaging in terrorist activities, from his grandfather’s attempt to assassinate Former President Nasir, to his uncle and many other family members’ involvement in the execution of a Coup in 1988 against President Maumoon. Finally when he got there he is all about maintaining his Presidency, nothing else.

He claims that he is the Commander Chief of the Military and the Police and attempted to control the Judiciary by locking up Judge Abdulla. While Judge Abdulla remains under solitary confinement in a Military base the people have been protesting against his arrest for over 3 weeks. Brutal attacks against peaceful protestors left victims in ICU while the heavy handed crackdown continues with 400 arrests made in 2 weeks.

He is continuing his reign of terror refusing to release Judge Abdulla, withholding the Judges salaries as well as declaring that the Judiciary is suspended until he is allowed to have his way with it. We thought the UN announcement that they will send a team next week will slow his reign of terror down, however he is causing more and more anarchy, by employing gangs constituting of prisoners he released in the name of second opportunity. They were reckless in their attacks against opposition members and tonight they cut off the cable and damaged the transmission of the Private TV Chanel Dhitv.

Police cut off Dhi-TV's transmission of the Protest while GMR to whom Anni gifted the airport holds Qatar Airways hostage

According to Sun Newspaper, A Qatar Airways flight was grounded at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport for two hours tonight. GMR claimed overdue payments as a reason for not allowing the flight to depart. Qatar Airways has recently warned against discontinuation of the operation of flights to Maldives. Sri Lankan Airlines has also made the decision to cease the operation of direct flights between Maldives and Europe. Thomson is considering a reduction in the number of flights to the Maldives.

John’s Oral Questions
26 JAN 2012
Question to Sir George Young on the Maldives
John Glen (Salisbury) (Con): Will the Leader of the House urgently make time for a debate on judicial reform in the Republic of the Maldives?
Translation: What the hell are we going to do to change the judges in Maldives in our favour? They are not doing what we want them to do and stand in our way.
Although the judiciary is constitutionally independent, sitting judges are underqualified, often corrupt and hostile to the democratically elected regime.
Translation: Although its non of our business, changing foreign judiciary should NOT EVEN BE DISCUSSED, is against the law, illegal and because they are supported by Maldivians they serve but they don’t agree with our dictator friend.
We can come up with something to help our friend the dictator Nasheed.
Sir George Young: The Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my hon. Friend the Member for North East Bedfordshire (Alistair Burt), is seized of this problem and is in touch with the Maldives President to see whether we can resolve the impasse.
Translation: Guys, we are already on this case. My friend is talking to Anni , giving him money and training, controlling the international media to make sure his dictatorship is not known to the world.
The high commission in Colombo is also engaged. We want to help the Maldives to make progress towards democratic reform in the direction that my hon. Friend the Member for Salisbury (John Glen) outlines.
Translation: We are also using all the region resources to suppress the voices of the people of The Maldives and make sure things go the way we want. To hell with the Maldivians and what they want, support Anni.

Finally help is on the way from the international community, precisely the United Nation and Forign Minister Naseem cannot deny it this time: The lonely life of a Dictator Mohamed Nasheed chose to impose on the Maldivian people hopefully will end now…

Yes the UN is coming. There is no denying that by the Foreign Minister and the MDP Dictatorship’s other body guards. The UN’s official website stated,
“3 February 2012 – A United Nations political team heads to the Maldives next week for talks on how to help support the Indian Ocean archipelago in its transition to democracy. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s spokesperson Martin Nesirky told reporters today that a mission from the UN Department of Political Affairs (DPA), headed by Assistant Secretary-General Oscar Fernandez-Taranco, is slated to arrive in the Maldives on 9 February. The mission will meet with Government officials, opposition leaders and civil society representatives to both discuss the current situation and identify opportunities to support the democratic transition, Mr. Nesirky said. In November last year UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay visited the Maldives and said the country had made “significant advances” during the first few years of its transition, but a gap still existed between the rhetoric and the reality on the ground…”
Dictator Mohamed Nasheed and his party; to consolidate his power and perhaps to rig the 2013 election easily came up with the idea that he has to take control over the Judiciary of Maldives. To do so as fast as possible, he ordered the Military to arrest Judges of the Judiciary, lock them up, suspend the judicial functions and withhold the salaries of the Judges.
As a man who bought Parliament members paying them millions of dollars from the state coffers; to change his party’s minority status in the parliament to a majority despite of country wide protests; Nasheed thought that his takeover of the Judiciary will be as easy as the Parliament.
However he has another thing coming. This time the protests against the Dictators attack on the Judiciary that started over 2 weeks ago will not stop. It has been going strong for a 3rd week. Meanwhile all the opposition, NGO’s of the country, every civil society organisation joined the protest and kept a vigil in the streets of the Capital Male’ protesting despite their fate having sealed with severe beating, pepper spray and gas attacks and mass arrests by a heavy handed Military and a Police force that only listens to Dictator Nasheed’s commands. More than 400 arrests were made over the last three weeks.
The Dictator and his uncle who is also the Foreign Minister ignored the repeated calls from his own people, spreading propaganda in overseas newspapers against the people calling them fundamentalists and also labelling the Judiciary corrupt even though there is not even a single case of corruption that they can pinpoint.
This meant the only solution to the problem obviously is international pressure against the dictator or at least advocacy by the international community that is non-bias unlike the British Conservatives which visited and spent time with the MDP party members and came back to UK to repeat Nasheed’s poor excuses to as why he is behaving like a Dictator worse than Hitler holding Judges under lock and key and also by saying that he will use force even if it means killing the people that are calling for him to respect their freedom and liberty.
Denying that there is no international pressure despite statements by the Canadian Government, the EU and many other’s the Dictator kept his assault on the people, and it was only last night former Amnesty International Prisoner of Conscience Sandhaanu Ahamaidhee suffered a heart attack and is still in the ICU after the Military attacked his face with excessive amounts of an unknown kind of spray.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the United Nation for listening to the pleas of the Maldivian people and take the initiative to come and help restore peace and stability in the country and we would like to appeal to the developed countries of the world as well as other’s to do the same instead of protecting their mistake.

Maldives Supreme Court should charge Dictator Nasheed and the Military with acts of terrorism, human rights violation in the kidnapping, arbitrary arrest, disappearance and solitary confinement of Judge Abdulla as well as the degrading acts carried out against peaceful protestors on a daily basis.

With Maldives Dictator holding Judges of the Judiciary hostage, in solitary confinement, and using the Military to attack, arrest peaceful protesters every night as well as withholding the salaries of the Judges of the Judiciary, the Supreme Court is facing immense pressure from Human Rights groups and the Maldivian people to charge Dictator Nasheed and the Military with terrorism and human rights violation. It is time the Supreme Court charge the Dictator and the Military that has become blind to their own acts of terror and intimidation.
Repeated calls to release Judge Abdulla by both domestic and international bodies have fallen on the deaf ears of both the Dictator that ordered the arrest, and the Military that carried out the act. There have been many other cases of unlawful arrests and injuries to civilians already lodged against the Maldives Military while Dictator Nasheed’s use of extra judicial powers to hold Judge Abdulla in solitary confinement for over 3 weeks denying him access to Justice as granted in the Constitution have been challenged and disputed by international human rights organisations as well as governments of the world, all of them advocating his release.
Abduction of Ghazi Abdulla by the Dictator and the Military that carried out his order is a politically motivated terrorist act. Therefore his family has also lodged a case against the Dictator while Vice President of the opposition party PPM, Umar Naseer has also lodged a similar case against the Military and Dictator Nasheed.
Cruel degrading inhuman punishments on the orders of Dictator Nasheed are being carried out by the Military on a daily basis since the disappearance of Judge Abdulla. Ex AG and previous SAARC secretary-general, she was dragged by the Military while protesting and her arrest with 7 other women were extremely violent. Similarly MP’s and opposition politicians that participated in the anti-government protests were beaten up so badly some of them were left disabled in wheel chairs.
The Law prohibits arbitrary arrest and detention of the Maldivian people. Dictator Nasheed arresting and responsible for the disappearance of Judge Abdulla is a gross violation of human rights that the Supreme Court should no longer overlook.
The Supreme Court should act now and charge both the Military and the Dictator for their atrocities against Judge Abdulla as well as their use of extra judicial powers to persecute and intimidate Dictators political opponents and peaceful protestors.

Maldives Dictator still holding Judges of the Judiciary in solitary confinement says unless he can sway the Judiciary his way he will not hold the Presidential election in 2013 and will never let the Judge or the Judiciary function. We call on the Military to stop their violent crackdown on protestors and retire to barracks and let people power prevail. This is it.

True to his words from MDP thugs to MP’s to Ministers have denounced the Judiciary and serious criminal cases involving them have been stalled. The Maldives Military is also behaving in the same way refusing to release the Judges they have taken hostage.
While meeting the Military and brainwashing them to sustain their attack, harassing, beating of the protestors that have been protesting for over two weeks against Dictator Nasheed’s illegal arrest of Judges of the Judiciary, he told the Military officers present that he intends to withhold the 2013 Presidential election until he is allowed to have his way with the Judiciary. In a leaked audio he was hard saying that he will never release Judge Abdulla and will never let him enter the Judiciary building. Neither will he obey the Judiciary, declaring the Judiciary of Maldives non-existent as far as he is concerned.
There is no civilian government in the Maldives since Dictator Nasheed came to power, always relying on the army to assert his rule declaring that he will go outside the Constitution to get what he wants. True to his words that has been how he’s been rolling as the President of Maldives. . Rule of law is disputed and challenged by his criminal gang called MDP, with his MP Thimarafushi Musthafa a known terrorist and an organised criminal refusing to appear in court in a case lodged against him for paying a million dollar debt he owed to someone in a bounced check.
It has been over two weeks since Dictator Nasheed ordered the Military to arrest Chief Judge of the Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed. He has been held in a Military base without access to lawyers, without any outside contact whatsoever since his arrest.
The Maldives Judicial Service Commission, the Supreme Court, the Maldives Human Rights Commission, the United Nation Human Rights Commission and even the EU a huge supporter of the Dictator’s environment crusade have called on him to release Judge Abdulla or charge him with a crime. Of course as the Judge never committed a crime; he is unable to charge him.
His refusal to release the Judge and continuous unlawful arrest of opposition leaders meant the Maldivian people have protested on the streets for over two weeks. How this man thinks he can continue like this is beyond our understanding.
The people power rising in Maldives over two weeks has no impact on the Dictator unlike his predecessor who bowed his head down humbly and let the people have their way even though knew very well that they have been hoodwinked by this cunning treacherous coning man. Now the country corner to corner is regretting their mistake and wants Dictator Nasheed gone in seconds.
Holding of free and fair election in 2013 is the only hope and the only way that Maldives can revert back to a civilian government or as the Military controlled by a crony is not stopping and keeps on impose the will of the Dictator. It increasingly looks like the Maldivian people are truly stuck trapped in an abyss of lawlessness with the country in the hands of a criminal gang that has declared the most important separation of power the Judiciary; void.
We are calling on the international communities that have given deaf ears, to stop giving lip services and become more pro-active and arbitrate dialogues between the political powers of the country so that once again the people can breathe easy.

Anni (Mohamed Nasheed, current implanted president of The Republic of Maldives) continues to discredit and shame Maldivians in the International arena:Contributor report

As predicted Anni (Mohamed Nasheed, current implanted president of The Republic of Maldives) continues to discredit and shame Maldivians in the International arena. How can such a small nation get on the headlines of the world’s leading newspapers, day after day? The headlines are old news but the intention of the news is clear; to put the people of Maldives to shame. One might ask how does Anni have access to the front pages of the international newspapers. The answer is logical. The news content is certainly no factual or at least accurate, so the motive can only be political. It’s a trick that is old and timeless. It is a deception of distraction from the truth so that the autocratic regime can continue its vengeance on its people.

The irony of the latest headlines is that Anni is at the very center of it.
“Maldives battles scourge of rampant heroin use”, (by the unfortunate – Ben Doherty, January 26, 2012)
Anni who is a well publicised cannabis addict and in favour of legalising drug use, dare to disrepute Maldivians internationally.
At this stage if you are a Maldivian your identity is revealed while abroad, you will be known as a fundamentalist, wife beating, drug addict.
Again you have to ask what MDP have to gain by spreading such rumours. They have to show the world what barbarians they are up against, what a hard time they are having trying to civilise us while distracting the international community at the same time. They are creating these distractions just in case the people abroad start to believe the real story last and last but not least this is what the UK conservative party has to do to keep their constituents in the dark.
Why switch to Australian newspapers from UK papers?
• They found a person (Ben Doherty) who could easily be manipulated.
• Maldivians are already watching the UK newspapers and commenting on them
• Australian newspapers still does not allow commentary by their readers so the truth cannot be revealed
• In this day and age, it does not matter which country you publish your news as long as it can be Googled and read by many.
I fear that if we scare the international community we will starve to death. As simple of as that. No ifs or buts and nothing more to add. I do not really care for any particular political party or person but I DO care about the people as a whole. Times are critical, the people are the answer and the solution and I only a watchman. I have no choice to leave you all to your fate as deserved.

Dictator Nasheed’s uncle who is the Foreign Minister of his Dictatorship says no international pressure, but United Nation made official calls on the government to release the Judges they arrested or charge him with a crime. The country remains lawless without a Judiciary with President withholding the Judges salary saying that they haven’t taken their Oath:Mad

The unlawful arrest of Judges of the Judiciary and opposition politicians with the Military taking Judges hostages on Dictator Nasheed’s order on and off since their Dictatorship have been the ruling culture of MDP and Dictator Nasheed. They thought Dictator Nasheed holding a Judge from the Judiciary hostage in solitary confinement will be endorsed by the internationally community; and they have boasted about how no international organisation or country has asked them to act lawfully.
Dictator Nasheed and his team were confident that the man’s PR success as popular environmental crusader internationally will fool the world to become blind to what a Dictator he is when it comes to his own people. But their woodworking is no longer paying off, although Dictator’s PR team has published propaganda in newspapers all over the world resorting to desperate lies. The Foreign Minister who happens to be Dictator’s own uncle was so confident that the international community will believe whatever lies they tell; went as far as sending a letter to the United Nation saying that they need help with sorting out the Maldives Judiciary. These MDP goons do not realise that no legal institution, NGO, particularly UN will never endorse, the illegal kidnapping of a Judge, taken off from his home in front of his small children, with the use of Military and held in solitary confinement for over 2 weeks now. Increasingly dictatorial and delusional with their unlawful violent acts against the Maldivian people so common, the MDP dictatorship received the following response and hopefully a wake up call to come to their senses.
A spokesperson for the United Nation according to AP said, “While acknowledging the challenges Maldives faces in reforming and strengthening its judiciary, we believe that Judge Abdullah should either be treated with due process, meaning he should be properly charged moved from military detention, and brought before a court, or released,” she said.
The article also said, “The military arrested Abdulla Mohamed, the chief judge at the Maldives Criminal Court, nearly two weeks ago after he freed a government critic who had been detained without a warrant. The government accuses of the judge of corruption and political bias but has not brought him to court for any offences. The vice-president, Supreme Court and the Judicial Service Commission, which inquires into complaints against judges, have called unsuccessfully for his release. The military has also ignored a High Court order to produce the judge for a hearing of complaints against him. The arrest has sparked daily street protests that has resulted in clashes between police and opposition activists”.

SAARC Secretary General until she resigned a few days ago and former Attorney General of Dictator Nasheed’s government arrested for participating in the anti-government protests.

It was only a few months ago Diana Saeed was hailed a hero for making the SAARC annual conference held in the Maldives one of the most colourful as well as successful one.
Diana a Lawyer by trade hurried to criticise Dictator Nasheed’s take-over of the Judiciary and his ordering of the Military to arrest, summon hold in solitary confinement Judges of the Judiciary as well as opposition politicians.
When president Nasheed got the Military to kidnap Judge Abdulla Saeed and hold him in solitary confinement against his will without access to lawyers in a Military base, Diana criticised the government and a day later she resigned.
Tonight according to her she was sitting peacefully participating in the protest, without uttering a word when the Military jumped her and unceremoniously arrested her.
Isn’t it time the international community stop this man’s runaway madness.
The country has been systematically landed into anarchy through creative chaos instigated implemented by Dictator Nasheed with his arrest of Judges, politicians. People are getting arrested, beaten up, and summoned on orders of the Dictator. It is stated that even tonight various leading members from the opposition were beaten up so badly, after taken into custody, straightaway, they were taken to hospital in critical condition by ambulances, one of them include Maaz Saleem.
Police officer in charge of arrest refused to make any more arrests because of the force used by the Military that conducted the arrests.
It was said that army officers wearing balaclavas inflicted a lot of injuries on protestors. Some people suspected them to be paramilitary force consisting of ruling MDP activists that were responsible for beating up and putting fire to journalists like Sandhaanu Ahamaidhee, and mistakenly one of their own from MNBC1 who is still fighting for his life in intensive care.
Diana’s arrest and the degrading punishment this woman who gave and gave to Dictator Nasheed until she resigned a few days ago shows that this mad runaway Dictatorship has to be stopped by all mean/methods possible and it has to be done by the international community, as domestically he had changed Maldives not only into a Police or Military state but a terrorist state, with the Military Police and his activists, on the attack, with dangerous weapons.

Tips on how to end the Dictatorship, Political Impasse and the anarchy created by Dictator Mohamed Nasheed, Military, Police and the Party MDP in the Maldives.

As Gene Sharp stated we as human beings should not allow Dictators like Nasheed and his atheist party MDP (who are mere drug addicts and porn stars) to take away the dignity of our lives. We should not allow ourselves to be dominated and destroyed by him and his thug rule.
If we are willing we can prevent this cannabis addict’s tyranny and prevent his narcissistic assault on our Judiciary, Our parliament and most of all on our freedom of expression. It I sworn to get the Police and the Military to arrest whoever he wants and imprison them whenever he likes to however long he likes.
Why the countries of the world and their citizens do not tolerate Dictatorships the way we are doing in the Maldives. According to Sharp, population, communities under Dictatorships becomes weak, lacks self-confidence, and is incapable of resistance. People are often too frightened to share their hatred of the dictatorship and their hunger for freedom even with family and friends. People are often too terrified to think seriously of public resistance. In any case, what would be the use? Instead, they face suffering without purpose and a future without hope. Some people as it are happening in the Maldives since the tyrant Nasheed came to power they try resistance. Short-lived mass protests and demonstrations may have occurred. Possibly spirits soared temporarily. At other times, individuals and small groups may have conducted brave but ineffective gestures, asserting some principle or simply their defiance. Sadly acts of resistance have often been insufficient to overcome the people’s fear and habit of obedience. Those acts may have brought instead only increased suffering and death, not victories. This will go on unless the people lobby behind the revolutionists and actively engage in putting an end to despotic rule.
Here is a presentation based on Gene Sharp’s methodology on how to end Dictatorships before it takes its root in us so deep that we will never be able to escape its clutches.
1. Facing Dictatorship realistically with determination to end it.

Both internal and external Dictatorships have collapses when confronted by defiant, mobilized people. It is said that, often seen as firmly entrenched and impregnable, some of these dictatorships proved unable to withstand the concerted political, economic, and social defiance of the people. Since 1980 dictatorships have collapsed before the predominantly nonviolent defiance of people as it happened in many of the Eastern European Countries as well as Nepal, Haiti, Nigeria, Malawi and South Korea.
Although in some of the other countries the people’s fight against oppressive rulers did not bring a direct end to the ruling dictatorships or occupations, they have exposed the brutal nature of those repressive regimes to the world community and have provided the populations with valuable experience with this form of struggle.
Many of those citizens that rise against dictatorships in their countries used political defiance.
According to Robert Helvey; “Political defiance” is defined as a nonviolent struggle (protest, non-cooperation, and intervention) practically applied; defiantly and actively for political purposes. The term originated in response to the confusion and distortion created by equating nonviolent struggle with pacifism and moral or religious “nonviolence.” “Defiance” denotes a deliberate challenge to authority by disobedience, allowing no room for submission. “Political defiance” describes the environment in which the action is employed (political) as well as the objective (political power). The term is used principally to describe action by the people to regain control from dictatorships over their governmental institutions by relentlessly attacking their sources of power and deliberately using strategic planning and operations to do so.
We should never tolerate Dictatorships but we should end it, because ending these dictatorships
At least minimally ends much of the suffering of the victims of oppression, and has opened the way for the rebuilding of these societies with greater political democracy, personal liberties, and social justice.
2. Freedom through violence
What is to be done in such circumstances when a handful of resistance does nothing but increase the vile attacks of Dictators on people who oppose their assault? The obvious possibilities seem useless as indicated in the case of Maldives. Constitutional and legal barriers, judicial decisions, and public opinion are normally ignored by dictators. Understandably, reacting to the brutalities, torture, disappearances, and killings, people often have concluded that only violence can end a dictatorship. Angry victims have sometimes organized to fight the brutal dictators with whatever violent and military capacity they could muster, despite the odds being against them. These people have often fought bravely, at great cost in suffering and lives. Their accomplishments have sometimes been remarkable. By placing confidence in violent means, one has chosen the very type of struggle with which the oppressors nearly always have superiority.
The dictators are equipped to apply violence overwhelmingly. However long or briefly these democrats can continue, eventually the harsh military realities usually become inescapable. The dictators almost always have superiority in military hardware, ammunition, transportation, and the size of military forces. Despite bravery, the democrats are (almost always) no match. Therefore it is important to get help from the Military or any other combats’ to end the Dictatorship which brings us to our third option.
3. Coups, elections, foreign saviours’
If things are as bad as in Maldives a Military Coup is one of the best possible actions. A military coup d’état against a dictatorship might appear to be relatively one of the easiest and quickest ways to remove a particularly obscene regime. The removal of particular persons and cliques from the governing positions most will make it possible for another group to take their place. Although it is not an acceptable option to the problem of dictatorship it is a temporary measure needed in the Maldives to end the reign of terror inflicted on the people now on a daily basis by Ganjaa Viyazoru Mohamed Nasheed and gang.
There is the election option. Dictatorial regimes, such as those of the former Soviet-dominated Eastern bloc, and of course Nasheed and his gang in Maldives with their frequent trips to islands where elections occur go through the motions in order to appear democratic. Elections in Dictatorships are rigged and serve as controlled polls to get public countersignature of candidates already hand-picked by the dictators. According to Sharp, Dictators under pressure may at times agree to new elections, but then rig them to place civilian puppets in government offices. If opposition candidates have been allowed to run and were actually elected, as occurred in Burma in 1990 and Nigeria in 1993, results may simply be ignored and the “victors” subjected to intimidation, arrest, or even execution. Dictators are not in the business of allowing elections that could remove them from their thrones. Therefore this is not an option for us in the Maldives.
Then there is also the external option. People that suffer under brutal dictatorships like that of Viyazoru Mohamed Nasheed do not believe that the oppressed can liberate themselves. They expect that their people can only be saved by the actions of others. These people place their confidence in external forces. They believe that only international help can be strong enough to bring down the dictators. Often oppressed people are unwilling and temporarily unable to struggle because they have no confidence in their ability to face the ruthless dictatorship, and no known way to save them. It is therefore understandable that many people place their hope for liberation in others. This outside force may be outside media “public opinion,” the United Nations, a particular country or international economic and political sanctions.
However this is not an option for us the Maldivians. Because we have a President who has cocooned the international communities by putting cotton wool over their eyes to believe that he is an angle sent to the World by God to save not only the Maldives but the whole world with his (of course phony) environmental crusade.
Also according to Sharp there are other grave concerns when it comes to relying on foreign intervention which includes
• Frequently foreign states will tolerate, or even positively assist, a dictatorship in order to advance their own economic or political interests.
• Foreign states also may be willing to sell out an oppressed people instead of keeping pledges to assist their liberation at the cost of another objective.
• Some foreign states will act against a dictatorship only to gain their own economic, political, or military control over the country.
• The foreign states may become actively involved for positive purposes only if and when the internal resistance movement has already begun shaking the dictatorship, having thereby focused international attention on the brutal nature of the regime.
However according to Sharp, international pressures can be very useful, however, when they are supporting a powerful internal resistance movement. Then, for example, international economic boycotts, embargoes, the breaking of diplomatic relations, expulsion from international organizations, condemnation by United Nations bodies, and the like can assist greatly. Therefore it is important that our freedom fighters mobilise a powerful international force, country or even an organisation behind them.
4. What we can do to bring down the Dictatorship no matter how big or small the resistance movement is or movements are.
We must strengthen the oppressed population themselves in their determination, self-confidence, and resistance skills;
We must also strengthen the independent social groups and institutions of the oppressed people;
We must create a powerful internal resistance force; and develop a wise grand strategic plan for liberation and implement it skilfully.
Against a strong self-reliant force, given wise strategy, disciplined and courageous action, and genuine strength, the dictatorship will eventually crumble.
5. Identify the Dictators Weaknesses.
Dictatorships often appear invulnerable. Intelligence agencies, police, military forces, prisons, etc. are controlled by a powerful few. A country’s finances, natural resources, and production capacities are often arbitrarily plundered by dictators and used to support the dictators’ will. In comparison, democratic opposition forces often appear extremely weak, ineffective, and powerless. That perception of invulnerability against powerlessness makes effective opposition unlikely.
We can defeat Dictatorships and conquer them, but most quickly and with least cost if their weaknesses can be identified and the attack concentrated on them.
According to Sharp some of the weakness of Dictatorships include,
The cooperation of a multitude of people, groups, and institutions needed to operate the system may be restricted or withdrawn.
The requirements and effects of the regime’s past policies will somewhat limit its present ability to adopt and implement conflicting policies.
The system may become routine in its operation, less able to adjust quickly to new situations.
Personnel and resources already allocated for existing tasks will not be easily available for new needs.
Subordinates fearful of displeasing their superiors may not report accurate or complete information needed by the dictators to make decisions.
The ideology may erode, and myths and symbols of the system may become unstable.
Deteriorating efficiency and competency of the bureaucracy, or excessive controls and regulations, may make the system’s policies and operation ineffective.
Internal institutional conflicts and personal rivalries and hostilities may harm, and even disrupt, the operation of the dictatorship.
If the dictatorship is new, time is required for it to become well established.
With so many decisions made by so few people in the dictatorship, mistakes of judgment, policy, and action are likely to occur.
Of course in the case of Maldives we are seeing the most extreme acts of corruption, treason and nepotism carried out on a daily basis.
We have to make sure that we keep the tabs on the weaknesses till the very end and keep it fresh in the minds of the people. We have to use each and every weakness to convince the people to resist, fight, and join our course until we can successfully end the Dictatorship. We have to do so specially in the case of Maldives by using political defiance.
6. Political Defiance.
Political defiance can be employed for a variety of purposes, ranging from efforts to influence the opponents to take different actions, to create conditions for a peaceful resolution of conflict, or to disintegrate the opponents’ regime. Why Political Defiance is necessary.
• It does not accept that the outcome will be decided by the means of fighting chosen by the dictatorship.
• It is difficult for the regime to combat.
• It can uniquely aggravate weaknesses of the dictatorship and can sever its sources of power.
• It can in action be widely dispersed but can also be concentrated on a specific objective.
• It leads to errors of judgment and action by the dictators.
• It can effectively utilize the population as a whole and the society’s groups and institutions in the struggle to end the brutal domination of the few.
• It helps to spread the distribution of effective power in the society, making the establishment and maintenance of a democratic society more possible.
Questions that Political Defiance should be based on include
• What are the main obstacles to achieving freedom?
• What factors will facilitate achieving freedom?
• What are the main strengths of the dictatorship?
• What are the various weaknesses of the dictatorship?
• To what degree are the sources of power for the dictatorship vulnerable?
• What are the strengths of the democratic forces and the general population?
• What are the weaknesses of the democratic forces and how can they be corrected?
• What is the status of third parties, not immediately involved in the conflict, who already assist or might assist, either the dictatorship or the democratic movement, and if so in what
Ways?
How to implement Political Defiance to end the Dictatorship.
1. Use Selective resistance. For “selective resistance” it is necessary to identify specific limited issues or grievances that symbolize the general oppression of the dictatorship. Such issues may be the appropriate targets for conducting campaigns to gain intermediary strategic objectives within the overall grand strategy. Always concentrate primarily on specific social, economic, or political issues. These may be chosen in order to keep some part of the social and political system out of the dictators’ control, to regain control of some part currently controlled by the dictators, or to deny the dictators a particular objective.
2. Use Symbolic acts towards changing the Dictatorships. Initial symbolic protest actions have at times aroused major national and international attention — as the mass street demonstrations in Burma in 1988 or the student occupation and hunger strike in Tiananmen Square in Beijing in 1989. Although there will be harsh consequences, hunger strike, a vigil at a place of symbolic importance, a brief student boycott of classes, or a temporary sit-in at an important office. Certain symbolic acts, such as a physical occupation in front of the dictator’s palace or political police headquarters may involve
High risk but are very affective.
Most importantly severe sever the availability of the sources of power to the dictators completely and rapidly at the beginning of a struggle. Although this would require virtually the whole population and almost all the institutions of the society which had previously been largely submissive, to absolutely reject the regime and suddenly defy
it by massive and strong non-cooperation this is a very effective method in bringing the Dictatorship to its knee.
3. We have to take an aim to at the dictators’ power.
When it progress to the stage we are seeing in the Maldives it is important that try and see how the dictators’ sources of power can be further restricted. We have to sever the dictatorships’ sources of power, with the goal of producing increasing political paralysis, and in the end the disintegration of the dictatorship itself. It will be necessary to plan carefully how the democratic forces can weaken the support that people and groups have previously offered to the dictatorship. Will their support be weakened by revelations of the brutalities perpetrated by the regime, by exposure of the disastrous economic consequences of the dictators’ policies, or by a new understanding that the dictatorship can be ended?
Conclusion
Always remember,
Liberation from dictatorships is possible;
Very careful thought and strategic planning will be required to achieve it; and
Vigilance, hard work, and disciplined struggle, often at great cost, will be needed.
Finally combine these internal strategies with external help from NGO’s and any nation willing to help. We can do this.
Good Luck Adapted by Dr Khaulath Mohamed to overcome the current Political impasse created by Dictator Mohamed Nasheed his party MDP.

Democracy Hijacked: Real Face of President Nasheed: A report submitted by Hussain 2 to CNNi

As I write this article former amnesty prisoner of conscience and journalist Sandhaanu Ahmed Didi is lying on a hospital bed recovering from injuries inflicted by thugs from Maldives Democratic Party (MDP), President Nasheed’s political party. MDP thugs including MDP Male’ city councillor Afrah assaulted the frail Ahmed Didi severely beating him on the face and burning his neck with cigarettes.

The night started with the illegal detention of deputy leader of Dhivehi Qaumee party and former Communications minister in President Nasheed’s government Dr. Jameel. Dr. Jameel had also been arrested last night without any clear charges and the criminal court had ruled that such arrests violated the Constitution of the Maldives.
Dr. Jameel’s arrest sparked protests from the opposition which was brutally attacked by knife wielding thugs from the ruling MDP. The attack was facilitated by the Maldives Police Services which had failed to take any concrete actions to stop the assault. Maldives news media had reported that the thugs entered the headquarters of Maldives Police Services before attacking the peaceful opposition protestors.
This was soon followed by threats to Criminal Court Justice Abdulla by the vice president of MDP, Alhan Fahmy. Mr. Fahmy, a former opposition parliament member has been accused of taking bribes to join the ruling party. Less than an hour after the threat by Mr. Fahmy the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), the military, knocked down the door of Justice Abdulla’s house and dragged him while he was in the presence of many other Criminal Court Justices. MNDF has refused to comment on the state or whereabouts of Justice Abdulla and there have been reports that he is being detained in an MNDF training facility in the remote island of Girifushi.
According to Maldivian law, the military is not allowed to intervene in civil matters and the arrest of any judges is subject to the approval of the Prosecutor General and the issuing of a warrant for the arrest by a court superior to the court the judge serves in. The Prosecutor General has ordered the Defense Minister, Chief of MNDF, and the Police Commissioner to release Justice Abdulla. However, there has been no indication that President Nasheed’s authoritarian government will follow the Prosecutor General’s order. The Chief Supreme Court Justice Ahmed Faiz Hussain has also voiced deep concern over the actions of the military and has requested the government to release Justice Abdulla immediately. The High Court has also ordered President Nasheed’s despotic government to release Justice Abdulla immediately. However, as of writing this article there is no indication that Justice Abdulla will be released any time soon.
It is heartbreaking to see that the democracy we worked so hard to attain in 2008 has now fallen in disarray and turned literally into a military dictatorship. President Nasheed is no champion of democracy and has turned out to be much much worse than his predecessor. President Nasheed had previously locked the Supreme Court and illegally detained two opposition leaders (and members of parliament) indefinitely.

Maldives is gloomier and scarier than Egypt during its worst days, worse than the present day Syria with Dictator Nasheed using the Police as well as the Military to attack, arrest and take into custody journalists who he worked for, opposition leaders that served in his Cabinet as well as the Head Judge of the Maldives Judiciary. The truth is Nasheed from day one has been ruling the country with an iron fist that will leave the likes of Hitler crawling behind him in History books yet to be published because of his mastery in creating illusions that hoodwinks the international community to see this pariah/oppressor of the people as the environmental Messiah of not only the Maldives but the whole world.. .

The Capital Island of Maldives Male’ tonight is filled with protestors dissenting against the assault on freedom of the people carried out for two long weeks in this vicious manner. Tonight Sandhaanu Ahamaidhee, an Amnesty International Prisoner of Conscience was beaten up and burnt by the President and his ruling party Chairperson Reeko Moosa Manik’s bodyguards.
The man who boasted in his randy speeches that under him there will never be any political prisoners has taken the Deputy Leader of one of the main opposition parties DQP Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed into custody and people fear for his life after he has been taken to an undisclosed location in secret. This is the 4th time that Jameel has been arrested and his Lawyers working with the Judiciary were able to prevent him being held under Police custody for a prolonged time up until tonight. However tonight, the Supreme Court Judges that ordered his release has been arrested and taken into custody.
We are calling the international community to intervene immediately without delay and stop this assault carried out by this cunning dictator that has not only fooled us but the whole world. He is dancing on the people’s freedom, liberty their right to justice. Maldives had a peace loving populace that has lived in harmony for centuries until the arrival of the ruling MDP clan, but now every other day the man ban protests, arrest his opponents, get his ruling party thugs to stab journalists. This time it is going on for too long. We fear for the life of the Deputy Leader of DQP Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed and very concerned about the vicious attack carried against Sandhaanu Ahamiadhee journalist that once was an Amnesty International’s prisoner of Concise. If there is a United Nation, a UNHCR, an Amnesty International Please help us save our small tiny country and the people from this Dictator’s assault. Help from the international community is urgently needed to stop this anarchy instigated by Dictator Mohamed Nasheed

Hundreds arrested beaten up and taken into custody tonight in Maldives. Dictator Nasheed who boasted in the 2009 UK Conservative Conference that under him there will never be any political prisoners sent his bodyguards tonight; to put fire on famous Journalist S.Ahamaidhee and arrested opposition Leader Jameel yet again as well as too the Head Judge of the Judiciary Hon Abdulla Mohamed into custody

Maldives becomes another Egypt, Syria, Lybia with journalists, politicians and hundreds of civilians beaten up gravelly injured since Dictator Nasheed started a purge on the freedom of expression, with “Thiheneh Nukiyene campaign named in English as “You can’t say that”: Political opponents Journalists, members of the Judiciary and hundreds of civilians are held in jail tonight under arrest.

Tonight Dictator carried out arrests from all pillars of Democracy except from his own. The Head Judge Abdulla Saeed from the Judiciary was arrested on the Dictators order some time ago tonight; while opposition Politician Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed was taken by force into custody and moved to an undisclosed location a few hours ago, and journalist Sandhaanu Ahamaidhee got beaten up and burnt by the President and the ruling party’s Chairperson’s bodyguard led group of party activists.
A week or so ago the President’s spokesman announced that the President do not like how certain journalists write, what they say about his party and his government so he is going to make sure they are silenced. His spokesperson Zuhair named and shamed their victims then and their calling Deputy Leader of Jameel too bold for his own good, as well as named opposition party PPM’s MP Ahmed Mahloof. Following the announcement of their govenrment’s campaign “you can’t say this”, they started this cycle of arrests which reached epic heights with Dr Jameel taken to an undisclosed location, Ahamidhee burnt and beaten up by President Nasheed’s own body guards and ruling party thugs that came straight out of one of the series of meetings held, under the motto “you can’t say that”. Every night the President gathers his ruling party heads and their followers hate mongering through and through to the point they leave the meeting and attack, burn premises that they think are too vocal for their taste; while the Police and the Military are mobilised to arrest many others.
A sane President carrying out this kind of assault on freedom of expression is a first in the times that we live in. The man Maldivian call President has lost his marbles and has been engaging in weird behaviours for quite some time. But this is way out of order and this has to be stopped now or never.
It is time we come out and defend our liberties and freedom. A President that carries out a campaign against his own people naming it, “You can’t say that”; alone is enough to end the reign of terror he established from day one. Enough is enough. It is time to act and rectify this grave mistake.

The Indian knifing thieving GMR is the shadow government of Maldives. Although they are losing billions everywhere our airport that they fooled Dictator Nasheed to sell; remains the only golden goose of the company. No wonder why they are removing the presence of any Maldivian from it and replacing it with their own

We have a shadow government in our country that is controlling the incumbent MDP and Viyazoru President Mohamed Nasheed’s government. The new government is GMR. They have enslaved the MDP and Viyazoru Mohamed’s regime and chopped their balls off to do whatever they fancy to our people. It is time we get rid of them to once again to take control our country and protect the rights freedom and social justice of the Maldivian people. But first this company that has started a shadow government of their own in the country and enslaves us is in deep trouble and are not going to leave us alone, because they are in deep financial trouble and we are the solution to their problem. Therefore we might have to put up the same fight that our forefathers put against these Voraaviyafariverin few decades ago.
An article that appeared in the newspaper Economic Times/ India Times stated,
“GMR Infrastructure today reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 66.69 crore for the quarter ended June 30, mainly due to lower revenues from Delhi Airport, high interest costs and increased tax pay-out….The company had reported a net profit of Rs 28.44 crore during the corresponding period of the last fiscal, GMR Group CEO Subbarao Amarthaluru told reporters here…
Also it said, “The Company incurred a loss of Rs 192 crore because of the higher costs at Delhi airport.”…
The following statement by the chief and thief of staff Subbarao indicates that our National Airport that they hoodwinked Stingy Vorraviyafariverin loving President Kalhu Mohamed is the main method of holding their business together. What a loss to us and a gain to these Indian thieves. He said,
“On company’s profitability in the future the company’s highways segment was expected to break even by the year end. “Energy is already a profit-making vertical and Male and Hyderabad airports are performing well,” he added.”
Who sells the most profitable company that their nation owns, well it will be a dim-wit like Nasheed. This GMR they are creating huge wealth for their own while completely getting rid of the presence of any Maldivian from the airport. Decade old businesses have been ordered by GMR to close shop and their lifelong businesses ended; when GMR forced them to close their duty free shops in the airport. The Maldivian people are the losers here. They are losing their jobs and businesses at a time when they are hit by economic hardship and poverty of the worst experienced in history and the power these people have over Anni and his MDP group means they are in control.
I bet this GMR will steal everything, leaving nothing as they are doing now so mercilessly bleeding the country dry with total control they have over the dictatorship we have. There are no words in the English dictionary that can describe these pitiless vultures and the stingy Dictator Kalhu Mohamed that sold our biggest asset to these scavengers.
Nasheed is hooked and prostituting for GMR because they are covering the expenses of his and his cronies, their salaries, trips, buying of MP’s while putting us in debt more and more. Nasheed has not only transferred our nation’s biggest wealth to these Indian scavenger GMR but this GMR is running the show, running the country, belittling us, destroying our local businesses, our economy our livelihood. Obviously we are at their mercy and we are the only one that can save ourselves from this slavery the worst form of take-over.
This Indian Infrastructure company has disabled the current government of Maldives, chopped their balls off and ours too. The man we call President and his cronies watch on helpless as they take control over the nation and attack our own people destructing and destroying our very own one by one.
Mohamed Nasheed is a terrorist as he has not only sold his government and himself to this Indian company GMR, but also sold us the nation to be bled dry.
This new year I pray that this GMR becomes so bankrupt that they lose it all and close shop in the Maldives which is the only way I see them stop occupying the Maldives. Yes we are under an occupation. Our feeble dictatorial to us government is helpless, to stop them. Enslaved at the mercy of GMR it is time we take matters to our own hands and chase these knifing thieves out similar to the way we chased the “Voraviyafarri, Kalhu Mohamed enslaving, hidden government of Maldives that became a nuisance to our forefathers” GMR is running Maldives doing whatever they want to our people. Don’t just stand there and watch.. Take back your country and claim back your rights and power back to the people.

What the Maldives Political Party DQP & internet newspaper Minivan said about the reason why President Viyazoru Sular Shiraz Kalhu Mohamed Nasheed sold our biggest national asset the Hulhule International airport to GMR and his illicit love affair with this Indian company that is famous for stealing national assets from corrupt dictators.

Mr Antonio from Barcelona in an open letter he sent to President Nasheed that appeared in the Comments and opinion section of the paper Minivan news look at the far reaching consequences of the sale of GMR and their intended closure of all the locally run duty free shops so that they can sell their own materials. It stated:
Open letter for his Excellency Mohamed Nasheed, The President of The Republic of Maldives.
Excellency, Honourable Mr. President: May I start this open letter by wishing you and your family to be blessed by God alike your Government and all Honourable Maldivians, people that I have in great esteem and very close to my heart.
The first time I was in your lovely country was long ago and naturally like most, I have repeatedly come back. I did it as a tourist and as well as a business man with interests as I am (or… was until GMR destroyed my business) a small business man with economical activities in your country. At a certain moment I even created projects like the Sea University, that should develop studies and produce medicines using the elements exiting in the sea, as the sea is one of the greatest Maldivian assets. IT is not to be forgotten Excellency, that the day tourists will be gone, the sea will still be there.
The duty free island, a place where tourists could by all sorts of goods duty free, different from the airport, was another project that never saw the light but was design by me with all the love I have for Maldives.
The first time I landed in the Maldives, I was coming from Sri Lanka, and the contrast was so high that I really felt I was on paradise. The country was clean, peaceful, the water blue, the people nice. It was sunny and very organised. I was thrilled……
He goes on to say:
I am writing you this open letter Excellency, because I really love your country and feel sad when I see that people taking advantage of it.
A country, Your Excellency, needs above all her people and needs to invest in developing her citizens. If there is not a critical mass of national brain power being the driving force of the economy and culture, the country will fall very easily into the hands of abusers, the same ones that in the international scene move the economy with the only goal of making money without values or respect for the people regardless where their operations take place. For them, the geography is not important. Once the cows are milked, they are ready to move to another pasture with no guilty feelings of what is left behind.
At this point I apologise as I don’t want to step into the internal affairs of your country, but Excellency I live in a country that has 17 autonomous regions, with 17 governments and with 17 Presidents with their cabinets and a central government, so I think I know something about nationalism and protecting the citizens when it comes to putting the economy into international hands. These days the world is as as small as a handkerchief, so international cooperation is inevitable, but what about the protection
and development of the local business people? Shouldn’t the airport structure consider this? Shouldn’t Maldivian citizens’ business be allowed to profit from their country’s development? Shouldn’t the airport have a place for all, Dhivehi people and international business people? Airports for a country like Maldives are a strategic subject.
Once more I apologise as I am no one to give lessons on the subject but being involved with the Maldives for so long, my love for the country cannot keep me silent. A country is made by it’s people and its people make the country. If that is not to be considered why should people vote for any government? The airport could and can have a place for everybody. The airport belongs to the Maldives, is it so difficult for international corporations to understand it?
A comment that followed this article in Minivan stated, I sometimes think why is our president so ignorant on GMR case? He wants to private all the assets we have which is quite frankly very scary. He should know that certain assets like airport in a small country like Maldives, should be kept under the control of its people and government. Not under some big foreign company which only wants to make huge profits!! Giving our main gateway to GMR is the biggest mistake he did and I am sure he will regret it in the future. Only time will tell. He definitely will not get my vote!!”
Another interesting comment made goes on to say, “Riffath Afeef had warned that idiot Nasheed about the dangers of indiscriminate privatization during the drafting of that infernal manifesto.
Poor Riffath, he tried to get his message across to the Maldivian people but never succeeded.
The sad thing is President Nasheed needed no warning. He knows what he is doing. His ultimate plan is to hand over control of strategic assets to foreign corporations which he hopes would be loyal to him. Not the first time in history that a ruler has tried this tactics. However the gathering storm might blow little Mr. Nasheed off the scene.”
In addition to the above; an article written in Minivan about how one of the locally owned duty free shop had all it’s contents thrown out by GMR some interesting comments that appeared gives a lot of insight to the dangerous game this mad man played by gifting our national airport to GMR.
“The article stated, GMR officials yesterday began to physically remove the Alpha MVKB Duty Free Shop at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) after “several notices” to vacate the area were “ignored”, according to GMR’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mahika Chandrasena.

MVKB shop assistant Mohamed Nishwan told local newspaper Haveeru that GMR officials entered the shop around 2:00pm and began packing goods into boxes. They also began disassembling temporary wooden walls which were erected in late November to signify that the shop, which sells alcohol, cigarettes, and watches, was closed”
Alpha MVKB Managing Director Ibrahim ‘MVK’ Shafeeq today told Haveeru that GMR’s management style was “dictatorial” and “backed by someone.”
“We’re now seeing a foreign party trying to overtake us. How can they enter duty free shops like that and take out the goods? It shows that they have the power and that they’re operating with backing from someone,” he said.
We all know who Shafeeg is referring to. President Viyazooru Kalhu Mohamed damaged in the head due to long term Cannabis use.
A comment following the article read, “Dear all,
I am a small shareholder of AlphaMvkB, now MVKB. I have been working very hard, just as Mr. Shafeeg, to set up that business, where our main goal was to give as much as we could, work for the Maldivian people. A Maldivian business with Maldivian working people. We had to fight hard with the British when they attacked our honour, when dress in pyjama sort of suits, like if they were to play golf, they came to our board meetings to pretend to colonize and show they were better than us, pretend to socialize our staff, as if our Maldivian staff were monkeys that needed to be socialized. Latter we had to fight with Sri-Lankans more or less for the same reason. Now its the Indians … don’t you have pride for being Maldivians? That shop was and is the fruit of ward work, nights without sleep, taught negotiations. I never had problems in rolling up my sleeves and move boxes from one side to another, just like you. How many more aggressions do we have to face? How many more attacks to our honest and hardworking rights do we have to suffer?”
Another comment said, “A country that is shred into pieces, can only end up be being devastating by big sharks.
That has been the rule since the man stepped on the planet.
Long ago Maldives was attacked by the Netherlands, later in a historical movement freed from Portuguese. The great portuguese wall, today if stilled stand would have valued millions. Later the British come with their CW chit-chat and what have they made? Today the Indians? Who will be next attacking and making benefits on the last paradise on earth? A country that doesn’t respect the local people will end up a fine day, by realizing that the flag is just a cloth with colors but with no meaning !!!”.
Another comment said, “Yes, indeed, aa, the entry door fo Maldives being rulled by Indians is a total lack of strategy and will create more anger. Maldives is a nice but small country and mistakes of that kind will be paid in the years to come. So many rallies on religion, but nothing to fight for your owm economy !!! humans we never learn do we? Look at us now in Europe … Maldivians, religion is fine, but your concerns should be your sovereignty.”
An article written by Eleanor Johnson about the book written by DQP on the subject of how we are on the verge of a modern day slavery with the country ending up colonised by the Indian; the first part stated,
“A 24-page book released by Dhivehi Quamee Party (DQP) presents the government’s lease of Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) to developer GMR as a threat to local industry that will “enslave the nation and its economy”.
In the book, titled “Handing the airport to GMR: The beginning of slavery”, the DQP claim that the government has not only leased INIA operations to GMR, but has allowed the company to open other businesses in the Maldives.
GMR Male’ Retail was recently registered at the Economic Ministry. It is the second GMR business registered in the Maldives.
Citing information available in the public domain, DQP alleges that all Hulhule island lagoon resources will become the property of GMR, including the Hulhule Island Hotel (HIH), in-flight catering services and the Maldivian Air Taxi service.
Because salaries paid to Maldivian employees are a burden, the book claims, GMR will bring in Indian employees and house them in Hulhumale, “creating a visa-free zone for Indians to come and go”, reads Haveeru’s translation.
DQP further alleges that the airport development budget covers the expense of building hotels, offices and apartments on Hulhule but claims that there is no official requirement for GMR to develop a runway – apparently a key benchmark of local benefits.
Meanwhile, GMR today held a ground-breaking ceremony at INIA today to celebrate the start of work on a new terminal.
When asked about the groundbreaking, DQP member Dr Mohamed Jameel commented that “any development is good as long as it benefits the people of the Maldives. But the main benefit would be a new runway, and we don’t see that GMR is contractually obligated to construct one. Our question is, who will do the runway?”
London Heathrow has two runways, and is the busiest airport in the world with over 65 million passengers annually. The new terminal in the Maldives will take the airport up to a capacity of five million.
Jameel said completed development projects are not contributing to national development.
Other claims in the book include that all foreign currency earned at the airport is being deposited abroad by GMR, leading to the current dollar shortage.
Jameel called the book “a responsible work in the sense that it highlights issues relating to overall economy. This issue is very close to the hearts of the Maldivian people since the work at the airport was originally done by the Maldivian people. And we don’t agree that the people have the best deal.”
Minivan News asked whether use of the word ‘slavery’ in the book’s title had a purpose.
“In modern times people don’t colonise by taking over other countries, they colonise through economic and business ventures. A small country like the Maldives is very vulnerable to its economic needs. We have a history of neighboring countries manipulating the Maldives through economy, and it has been difficult to break those ties,” said Jameel.”
DQP in an article that appeared in their website stated:
This brief document summarizes the award of the Male’ International Airport (MIA) to GMR of India, the prior and subsequent events leading to the award, constitutional and legal issues involved, ethical and moral questions, questions involving lack of transparency in the awarding process, and financing risks involved.
1. Introduction
On 28th June 2010 the Government of the Maldives entered into a contract with GMR to lease the airport for a period of 25 years. It offered the Government:
a. A sum of U$78 million as advance payment which is to be deducted from the profit due to Government.
b. 1% of the Gross Revenue in the first four years (2010-2014) and 10% of the Gross Revenue from the general business in the remaining years.
c. 15% of the Gross Fuel Sales in the first four years and 27% of the Gross Fuel Sales in the remaining years.
d. GMR is also to invest a USD 375million over a period of 25 years.
In return GMR is given right to levy over US$2billion dollars from international bound passengers. These include:
a. A levy of USD25 for every international departure passenger (this is in addition to the current levy of USD18 for foreigners and USD14 for locals).
b. A levy of USD2 for every international departure passenger.
c. In addition to that several other concessions are given to GMR.
Despite the huge concessions given to the GMR as well as billions of dollars the company stands to gain, the proposal does not involve extension and expansion of MIA runway which means for the next 25 years airplanes like A380 would not be able to land at the MIA.
2. Circumstances Surrounding the Award
a. On18th October 2009 President Nasheed’s 20 month old Government sold, without any competitive bid process, majority shares of the State’s most profitable company Dhiraagu to Cable and Wireless (Britain) 122 days later, in the height of world financial crisis, the Government bought and few days later sold 20% shares of the country’s second most profitable government shareholding company – MWSC to Hitachi of Japan for MRF209.4 million. Government lost a total of MRF3.88 million from this later sale alone. Initially Parliament recommended not to sell state assets without its approval. However the Government, continued. Eventually the Parliament passed an amendment to Public Finance Act which effectively barred sale of state assets without parliamentary approval. Two hours later, in clear violation of the amended Public Finance Act, the Government leased MIA to GMR for 25 years!
b. MIA is a property of the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) – a statutory body created under the Company Act [1996]. MACL board, headed by President Nasheed’s relative, was summoned to the President’s Office, and was asked to rubber stamp theGMR deal. It refused to do so on the ground that the Government did not share basic information and relevant documents with it. The Government, in violation of the Company Act, immediately dismissed the MIA board and replaced with its own cronies which there and then rubber stamped the deal.
c. Earlier on 26th June 2010, four opposition parties, representing majority members of Parliament, formed an Opposition Alliance to oppose the Airport Lease. In a nationally televised event the Opposition Alliance warned all the concerned people not to proceed with the deal and signed a written pledge to:
Ø Undo any deal,
Ø Propose a specific law dealing with the MIA,
Ø Mount legal challenges in the Courts,
Ø Ask the country’s independent anti-corruption watch dog to investigate allegation of corruption involving the deal,
Ø Take action (including taking no-confidence vote) against ministers responsible for the deal (Minister for Finance and Treasury and Minister responsible for privatization)
d. The Government rushed the award of MIA to GMR after a comprehensive bill on Privatization has been adopted by open Parliament and committees thereof.
Despite all the above factors and events GMR proceeded with the contract!
3. Subsequent events
a. One day after the award of the MIA to GMR, the entire cabinet resigned citing no-cooperation from the Parliament. However the real reason appears to be to avoid parliamentary scrutiny of the GMR deal, including possible impeachment of senior ministers.
b. Only four hours after the cabinet resignation, the government in clear violation of Constitution mobilized military to arrest leaders who formed a united front to oppose the award. When the Criminal Court ordered to produce the two for a habeas corpus hearing the Government declined. The government also prevented, again in clear violation of the Constitution and Parliamentary Rules, the detained leaders from attending the Parliament.
c. Fourteen days later the Supreme Court declared their arrest unconstitutional and ordered them to be released. The Government then sent military with tanks and heavy armory to re-arrest one of the Opposition Alliance Leaders and held him for 9 days. When the Criminal Court ordered to produce the detained leader for a habeas corpus hearing senior military officials told the Chief Judge that they WILL NOT obey any court order!
d. After a series of street marches and protests led by the resigned ministers, and a series of threats and intimidation to judges and members of Parliament, the President, again in outrageous disregard to the Constitution, on 7th July 2010 ”re-appointed” his cabinet! Under the Constitution ministerial nominees must obtain parliamentary consent before assuming office or taking oath of office. However, since 7th July these self-proclaimed “ministers” have acted as ministers without parliamentary consent!
e. To make things worse, on 28th September 2010 these self-proclaimed ministers and the Cabinet decided that they will subject themselves to Parliamentary scrutiny!
f. Upon submission of the “re-instated” ministers for Parliamentary consent, the Parliament refused consent to seven out of twelve ministers, including Minister for Finance and Treasury, Minister for Home Affairs, Minister for Defence and Minister for Foreign Affairs. The President says that regardless of the rejection by the Parliament they will continue as ministers! The issue is being challenged in the Supreme Court.
g. In the meantime the President on 3rd June 2010 returned the amended Public Finance Act to Parliament (which he is entitled to do so under the Constitution). The Parliament however, passed the amendment with sufficient numbers to overrule presidential veto. The president then refused to gazette the law! The issue too is being challenged in the Supreme Court.
4. Current status
a. Currently the opposition has filed a case with the independent Anti-corruption Commission to investigate suspected corrupt dealings involving MIA lease to GMR.
b. Four Opposition Parties which commands majority in the Parliament have challenged the MIA lease to GMR in the Civil Court. Initially the Civil Court Registrar on 30th September 2010 rejected it on procedural grounds. The Opposition has challenged the Registrar’s decision in the High Court.
c. Deputy Leader of the Dhivehi Qaumee Party (Maldivian National Party) Mr. Imad Solih has also filed a case in the Civil Court challenging MIA lease to GMR.
d. More cases are likely to be filed in the coming days and months challenging the MIA lease to GMR.
e. Opposition Alliance is in the process of drafting a law to overrule the MIA lease to GMR and to nationalize the MIA. The Bill is expected to be tabled before the Parliament in the current session.
5. Grounds for challenge
Unconstitutional
a. MIA lease to GMR involves a levy of USD25 and a USD2 as insurance for every international departure passenger (this is in addition to the current levy of USD18 for foreigners and USD14 for locals).
b. Article 97 of the Constitution prohibits any form of taxation without legislation. Levy on departure passengers have always been done through legislation, including amendments thereof. In fact the current levy of USD18 for foreigners and USD14 for locals was introduced by the present government through amendments to the relevant law.
c. However, the right to levy a USD25 and a USD2 (a total of USD27) was given to GMR by the Government without the passage of any law.
d. According to news reports GMR has sought and the Government has agreed to give sovereign guarantee MIA related loans GMR takes. However, Public Finance (Amendment) Act clearly bars issuance of any such guarantee without Parliamentary endorsement. The Government has so far not sought such approval and the opposition dominated Parliament is unlikely to give such approval.
Illegal
a. Parliamentary recommendation not to sell state assets without its approval is binding on the Government. Therefore, any contract in breach of the recommendation is null and void.
b. Award of MIA to GMR is in clear breach of Public Finance (Amendment) Act which was passed to prevent the Award of MIA to GMR in particular and prevent of state assets in general. Therefore, the award is null and void.
c. MIA is a property of MACL – a statutory body created under the Company Act. Company Act requires the Board act in the best interests of the Company. Therefore, the Board’s dismissal and subsequent appointment of a crony Board which rubber stamped the MIA to GMR is in breach of Company Act.
d. Against the privatization Regulation (first opportunity to the MIA itself).
Suspected Corruption
a. Secrecy – The deal was kept highly secret. Government has refused to provide copies of the Concession Agreement despite demands under Article 29 of the Constitution which provides right to information as a fundamental right. Opposition is in the process of challenging Government’s refusal to provide copies of the document in the Courts.
b. Furthermore, under Article 61(c) the Government is duty bound to make public all government decisions and actions, except information that is declared as State secret by law.
c. Minister of Finance and Treasury Mr. Ali Hashim and Minister responsible for privatization Mr. Mahmood Razi are biggest Duty Free operators at MIA, while major financial contributors of the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) also holds major takes and interests in the airport.
6. Due diligence
GMR is the first major foreign investor since the president Nasheed assumed office in 2008. Therefore, GMR ought to have conducted a comprehensive due diligence. Even a superficial test would have failed for the following reasons:
Political instability
a. President Nasheed came to power with a united opposition support and with a promise of mid-term election. He has since reneged that promise, and partners who propelled him to power have since left. As a result his support has plummeted (70% eligible voters did not take part in a referendum he called in October this year while of those who did take part majority rejected his proposition!)
b. Government lacks majority in the Parliament – hence state contracts involving taxations (as is the case with MIA award to GMR) are likely to fail unless Opposition supports.
c. Important ministerial nominees like Finance Minister, Home Minister, Defence Minister and Foreign Minister all have failed to secure Parliamentary consent.
d. Ministers remaining are under constant fear of no-confidence motion being taken against them.
e. Arrest and detention of Opposition leaders contrary to the Constitution and laws and refusal to release them even when the court orders to do so.
f. Currently four Opposition MPs are facing serious charges – two of them are facing Sedition charges filed a day after they formed an opposition alliance to oppose the MIA award to GMR!
g. Election Commission has already declared that the forthcoming Local Council Election will not be free and faire because of Government’s meddling.
Undermining rule of law
During the last few months alone President Nasheed’s Government has:
a. Padlocked the Supreme Court and prevented Justices from entering the Court premises.
b. Shut down the Independent Judicial Service Commission – responsible for hiring and firing judges.
c. Shut down the independent Department of Justice – responsible for providing administrative support for the judges and the judiciary.
d. His ministers and senior government officials have refused to subject themselves to Parliamentary scrutiny as required by the Constitution!
e. His Government has refused to provide information required by the Constitution to the Parliament, Political parties, as well as citizens.
Inexperience Government
a. The Government is barely two years old.
b. Most of the senior Government officials are street activists who never had any private or public sector experience and some top official in the current government have past criminal records
Corruption and nepotism
a. Several contracts have been awarded to the ruling MDP activists – many of them against clear and specific instruction of Anti-Corruption Commission.
b. The Opposition has challenged in the courts several such awards.
c. In less than two years in power President Nasheed’s government has seen a 28 points fall in Transparency International’s Corruption Index.
d. Government has called the judiciary corrupt and ruling MDP has even setup its own public courts to disperse justice!
e. Cabinet Ministers have called Parliamentarians as wild animals! and they have marched on the streets of the capital Male’ against the Parliament and the Parliamentarians.
f. President and ministers continue, despite constitutional requirements, to disclose their financial reports.
g. The Government since March 29, 2010 continues to function without an Auditor General – a constitutional requirement.
h. Until 13 October 2010 President Nasheed prevented the Anti-corruption Commission from functioning effectively by refusing to appoint his own nominee to the Commission despite Parliamentary endorsement. Eventually he did so 13 days after the Civil Court ordered the President to do so.
Absence of good economic policies
a. Government lacks economic policies.
b. Government has flooded market with new islands (including parts of inhabited islands) to be developed as resorts.
c. On one hand it keeps selling most profitable state assets while at the same time keeps forming non-profitable companies.
d. Discontinuation of IMF assistance to the Government of the Maldives for failing to comply with the agreements of the agency.
e. Locally based foreign banks as well as overseas banks have all but frozen new loans, save very exceptional cases. As a result newly leased islands as well as a number of ongoing resorts with near-completion are unable to secure finance/bridge finance. Even highly cash rich and reputable companies are struggling to secure new loans or re-finance existing ones.
Multiple taxation
In less than two years in office the Government has:
a. Introduced without adequate time a resort land tax replacing resort lease rent.
b. Introduced without adequate time a GST replacing current bed tax.
c. Is about to introduce a Business Profit Tax.
d. Has proposed a Green Tax.
Growing religious extremism
United Kingdom has imposed more stringent screening of air cargo from Maldives (along with countries like Sudan and Somalia). President Nasheed too concedes this is a result of growing religious extremism.
Growing crimes
Serious crimes, including murder, robbery, rape etc have increased dramatically over the years forcing the Government to introduce legislations on gang and organized crimes as well as dangerous weapons.
7. Financing risks
Huge risks involve in financing the GMR-MIA project. Among them include:
a. Possibility of the whole transaction being revoked by the country’s Anti-corruption Commission which has the mandate to do so under the Constitution and under the Anti-corruption Commission Act.
b. Very really likelihood that the courts would declare the transaction as unconstitutional because it involves taxation without legislation as required by the Constitution.
c. Possibility of the courts declaring the deal illegal on the ground that it was done in violation of Public Finance (Amendment) Act which bars sale of State assets.
d. Possibility of the courts declaring the deal illegal on the ground that acquisition of the MAC assets was in violation of the Company Act.
e. Possibility of the courts declaring the deal illegal on the ground that the dismissal of the Board of MAC and the subsequent rubber stamping of the whole deal by Government appointed Board violates the Company Act.
f. Possibility of the courts declaring the deal illegal on the ground that it was done contrary to the Privatization Regulation.
g. Opposition that holds majority in the Parliament, is in the process of reversing the award through specific law.
h. If the President carries out his promised midterm election (which will be due in the middle of next year) the Opposition is very likely to win the election. They have already pledged to reverse the deal.
In any event presidential election is due in three years’ time. The current Government which is highly unpopular is expected to lose and the Opposition is likely to carry out its promised nationalization of the MIA.
In an article that appeared on the 19th of December in the DQP website it presented some more facts as why GMR is a threat to the national sovereignty of Maldives.
