President Nasheed, his Defence Minister Ameen Faisal and Head of Military is making a mockery of the separation of powers and the Constitution with the continuous abduction and solitary confinement of MP and opposition leader Hon Yamin

Despite repeated requests by the Maldives Judiciary to give Yamin the right to Trial and the Maldives Parliament’s repeated requests to free or at least explain why the MP and opposition leader is taken hostage; the Defence Minister and Head of Military Moosa Ali Jaleel is refusing to give any explanation. The Presidents illegal and unconstitutional abduction of Yamin and detention of other leaders are blamed for the continuous political crisis and violence in the Maldives.
The President said last Friday that he intends to take whom he wants and when he wants and keep them in solitary confinement as he pleases.
The Parliament unable to conduct it’s meeting yet again cancelled its session. Leading opposition figures and supporters are getting kidnapped by the Military without any explanation often preposterously stating that they are giving them security as in Hon Yamin’s case, when it is clear that the government’s paranoia about the opposition being behind a coup is what brought on the political crisis. They themselves manifested all this over two weeks ago with the Cabinet’s mass resignation and detention of opposition leaders.
MPs belonging to the current government are stealing public funds and buying MPs, with Checks made to MP’s who recently joined them written by the Head of Parliamentary group Reeko Moosa Manik with photo copies of it everywhere on the internet. The government supporters keep on protesting on a daily basis, attacking the opposition leaders and their houses, screaming and calling on to bring charges against not one but, all opposition MPs every one of them with corruption and sedition.
The President Mohamed Nasheed, his Defence Minister Ameen Faisal and the Head of Military Moosa Ali Jaleel are making a mockery of the separation of powers and the Constitution. There is no rule of law in the country, while series of protests in the streets of the Capital have disabled the lives of the Maldives people.
Instead of accusing opponents of sedition and holding opposition leaders in solitary confinement a sincere President would be trying hard to end the political crisis, as his and his military disregard to the rule of law by their continued kidnapping of these leaders is exacerbating the political crisis.
The current government and its top officials are the one buying houses running into millions, and openly offering MPs bribes to join them; however actions of theirs are regarded as above the law, and treated as legitimate.
The President for the way he is using the Military and the Maldives Police Force to kidnap and arrest opposition leaders are actions of a Coward and a Dictator.
The political condition of the country is affecting the economic, social and mental well being of the citizens everywhere, as can be seen in the comments in the local newspaper Haveeru many; even those that belong to the President’s own party calling him; in fact begging him to end this crisis.
Meanwhile the United States, EU and the UN are appealing to the President to solve the political crisis through dialogue and not to resort to dictatorial methods. Holding his opponents captive, while disabling the functions of the Legislature and the Judiciary; with mass demonstrations by the ruling party supporters lead by top officials of the government often attacking and destroying the homes of the opposition supporters and leaders continues as the poverty stricken citizens wait for this nightmare to end.
