Auditor General Naeem: why is the government lead by Nasheed and MDP interfering with the Parliament and protecting the man?

The Parliament and the Executive lead by President Nasheed are equal and are separated powers with equal rights. However when it comes to the Executive lead by the MDP and Nasheed as President they always think they are superior and try to use violence to disrupt the work of the Parliament. This time the MDP and President Nasheed have obstructed the work of the Parliament in order to protect the Auditor General Maakun Naeem, against a no confidence vote lead by the main opposition and the independent MP’s in the Parliament. What is the justification behind protecting a man who has stolen thousands from the state coffers. One may wonder why? Naeem is a man supposed to be independent and is given the position of AG by the Parliament to protect the Finances of the government from abuse and make sure the machineries of government is responsible, accountable and transparent. However he was involved in stealing from the government, financing his and his families holidays, and also used the State credit cards to spend money on himself, in their thousands. Maakun Naeem is related to top MDP officials and officials in the ruling echelon. Maakun Naeem also is responsible for damming reports he generated during the Presidential election against the then ruling party and current main opposition DRP. Within days of election he generated report after report about institutions under the former administration that clearly targeted with the intention to harm the government of President Maumoon and DRP. Although it lacks any evidence of wrongdoing by the Former President and his administration, for the gullible voting population of the Maldives and the way it was used by the current ruling MDP damaged the winning chances of President Maumoon. The reports Maakun Naeem generated a day before election about Dhiraagu; the state cable and wireless company was used by the MDP to influence the Public, blown out of proportion. The act of the Auditor General was unethical and President Maumoon should have got rid of him for once and all with the first report he generated. However he was let to continue and he generated 25 more. Therefore it is evident this Auditor General is not as independent as he should be. Not only is he a biased man, but he also failed to scrutinise the unethical activities of the MDP in power, including the sale of Dhiraagu by the MDP and Mohamed Nasheed, without following the procedures and necessary consultation as stipulated in the regulation of the company. The man is a menace to the democratic function of the society, as under him the current government is engaged in corruption and daylight robbery of the state, all of which he is failing miserably to scrutinise. Dhiraagu case was just the beginning. Repeatedly the government of MDP obstruct the Parliament to protect their party line and the interests of the loyalists. Therefore when the no confidence vote is motioned the government is perpetrating violence and bringing the Parliament to a standstill once again, causing injury to three vice President’s of the main opposition and Parliament members. Following his sponsored violence, President said in his Radio address that he will not let the Parliament disrupt the public harmony is the most ironical and comical statement of the year. It is clear that he will not allow the Parliament to function in any other way than he, his party and his loyalist’s way. Against the backdrop of the government interfering with the functions of the Parliament always using violent activists, to attack the Parliament members representing the main opposition and the Public interest, it is time the people intervene. For the main opposition members and the few independent members work has become impossible. It is always the President and his party’s way or the work stops. The President wants to form Provinces and get his hand picked political appointees rule the atolls even though it was stipulated that under decentralisation that each individual atoll will be given the autonomy to make decisions. Twice the ruling MDP thugs, cabinet Ministers and Parliament members have manifested violence to protect their interests and the bill is stalled for more than over a year. This time when a man who has been convicted of using the state credit cards in numerous occasions to facilitate his lavish personal life, and evidence of bank statements and receipts indicated he has done so is getting protected by the ruling MDP. It was clear from Haveeru Newspaper in the violence of the last three consecutive days MDP, top officials from the Parliament belonging to the ruling party, and the Executive together with activists initiated every case of violence. The main opposition party retaliates only to protect themselves; however ended up bleeding and injured . It was also clear that the people who get arrested and send to Dhoonidho, the jail for political prisoners are those Parliament members belonging to the main opposition. The Police Service now headed by political appointees failed to take actions against the regime supporting thugs who caused criminal damage. Nothing and nobody else, but attempts by the government, the party MDP, and President Nasheed with his violent history are responsible for endangering the public safety, and our young infant democracy. They are shamelessly doing so and have the nerve to say they are trying to protect the Public interest. If they are acting in the Public interest they should welcome a No confidence vote against the Auditor General Maakun Naeem who has stolen from the State Coffers. End of the story. The shameless acts of MDP, President Nasheed and their Parliament members belonging to the party need to stop right now, as the Maldivian people seeing enough are not so gullible anymore. The Public have to act now and the MDP regime should be given the marching orders as this cannot continue anymore.
