MDP government is not only a failed government but an illegal government too and it is time that the ordinary citizens and political parties stop tolerating them, stop them from taking advantage of us, use their language and actions to bring their Dictatorship down.

For the good of the country and to save ourselves from a very humiliating and embarrassing democratic failure it is time that our opposition parties and ordinary citizens break their silence. It is time to face the reality and realise that a tolerant political approach will not work with a man of Nasheed’s and many of his subjects backgrounds. These two years should have made us realise that there is no stopping the President and his party when they pulled punch after punch, hit us with one stunt after the other, make a spectacle of ourselves and our country one after the other, and do whatever they want with our assets, our public services, our islands, our people, our administrative systems, whenever they want leaving catastrophic consequences in their wake while we stayed quite waiting for him and his party to change.
A man who used his violent aggression to come to power and in power carry out his vendetta and teach his government officials to undermine the rule of law, the Judiciary, the Constitution and the Legislature we kept silent to the point that we have lost all our self confidence and the confidence in our opposition. As Nasheed and MDP kept saying and believed; we have started thinking that we are incompetent, incapable, that our opposition is incompetent and can never stop the abuses of this government because the only people gutsy enough, radical enough, violent enough, abusive enough, daring enough, to take over, win and rule the country from now on is the MDP.
When the President brought the judiciary to a halt by locking the Supreme Court and mobilising the Military to barricade access to the Judiciary what did we do? We stayed quiet. When the President ordered his Cabinet to resign and accept their resignation, continue with his rule, and then decided to bring the whole group back and carry on business as usual without following the Mandatory steps dictated in the Constitution such as Parliament approval of the Cabinet, and when the the group one by one refused to appear before the Parliament what did we do? Stay quiet and let this illegal unapproved bunch of people to carry on business as usual. When the President sacked thousands of Civil Servants than reduced their salaries in the name of improving the economy but kept on coming up with daily new political appointments and establishment of one quango after the other in the name of Commissions, Boards and Councils filled with loyalist friends what did we do? Stay quiet. We let a Dictator born out of violent aggressive political methods and his bunch of followers from unhealthy backgrounds to form a political party and use their radical and highly threatening actions intimidate our sane government to step down, let them come to power and legitimise the repeated illegal actions of the group in power.
From salary cuts, to privatisation, to attacks on everyone who do not sign to the party while intimidating the opposition parties and the ordinary Maldivians to silence in the face of hunger and abuse of freedom, while an illegal unapproved Cabinet carries on staying as the government of the day, it is time we step up.
It is time that our main opposition political parties and we ourselves adopt the same adversarial approach the man Nasheed engaged in throughout his political career. We have to react and retaliate and answer him in his own language always stepping one step ahead of him. His activists and he himself think they are the only one with the backbone to adopt aggression and revolutionary methods to come to power and stay in power. They have so much confidence they openly claim that there will never be another political party with the capability to become radical and nasty enough to challenge them and their methods to power and in power. Therefore they claim that they will stay in power and secure power in 2013, even when they themselves know and agree that they are incompetent, have brought poverty, economic and social suffering to a new low that the country have never seen even in the years of depression, have destroyed the Public Sector while putting up everything we called our own for sale through apparent corruption and croynism, and kept buying Parliament Members in broad daylight deals while arresting opposition leaders on the same charges. They are well sure that they have one foot at the door to win 2013 and will win the Council Elections because despite of their destructive dictatorial rule the people and the opposition parties refused to become like them and stayed soft. However it is time we realise that in this political situation, we have to change ourselves and become what we have to be in order to claim the country back from these strangers who think of nothing when our people get mugged, robbed, stabbed, to death on a daily basis by their activists.
We have to shake ourselves and wake ourselves and our opposition parties specially the main opposition coalition to get us out of this nightmare. We have to become strong and step up our acts to a level that is needed and expected to deal with Nasheed and his street gangs. Playing it nice, peace and diplomacy is not in Mohamed Nasheed and MDP’s dictionary and these past two years have taught us that it is not going to get us anywhere. We have to show that we are capable of starting a battle too and fight our battle too. It is regrettable that two years have passed already with us sitting ducks and it is clear that we have to stand up for ourselves and our country. We have to become abusive enough, violent enough, radical enough and retaliative enough and do so by giving a double doze to every single doze of bitter medicine that MDP and Nasheed are forcing though our throat. It is time as Shakespeare says Measure for Measure.
We call on the opposition political parties and supporters to deal with this political disaster of MDP and Nasheed and deal with them and their way at their level and their ways. Time to step up. No more diplomacy, partnerships and deal making with somebody who established a Dictatorship and have come to the conclusion that we are disabled therefore he can get away with his murderous ways. MDP/Nasheed is a mistake and time to rectify our mistake by becoming one with the opposition parties. It is time that we the people and the opposition parties adopt the aggressive Political methods needed to deal with the man and his dictatorship and his violent thugs. Passive resistance or Civil Disobedience, and Protests should be promoted to riots and street activism of the most radical levels to bring Nasheed and MDP back to Earth, and defeat them with the same kind of headaches and tension they created to come to power.
There is a saying in a Maldives Proverb. Iron can only be cut with Iron. Don’t worry about the threats of tear gas and violent crackdown by the Dictator’s Military and the Police. Today we have to take steps, and lets jump start the new road to political recovery we dreamed for ourselves during the reform years before 2008. Reconstruct and re-invent yourselves to the extent needed with the radical and revolutionary spirit needed to deal with Nasheed and MDP; who thinks we are timid and scared of them. Show them that we are not afraid and when it comes to securing our well-being, freedom and the rights of our people and protecting our beloved nation, we can be not one but thousand steps ahead of their game.
