The state controlled media headlines of Apartment blocks and signing contracts are yet again a well orchestrated spin to win the Council Election and we should not get hoodwinked by these fake election plots.

The long awaited Council Elections are almost here and the daily headlines not only in the state controlled media but also other media outlets actually getting hoodwinked by new contract signings designed and engineered by the MDP regime to win the Council Election are broadcasting this bull.
There is nothing random about the sudden frequent headlines. They are well timed for winning the island and atoll Councils as well as the Council of the Capital Male’. We should realise on thing; that no matter how many headlines are made about apartment blocks, flats, sewerage systems, nothing will happen for us. None of these headlines we hear and see on a daily basis are real. The two years of barren desert economic and social conditions will continue and become worse if we vote and elect MDPian for our local Councils. They have been there for the last two years to sustain the power of MDP and President Nasheed and they will continue to do so if we elect them. Time to change our destiny by bringing those other than MDP into our administrative structure. We need fresh blood with fighting spirits for our Councils.
We are deeply worried that some people might actually get brainwashed by the lies spread in the state owned media. At a time when the people are left ignored for over two years, and the government not doing a single thing to develop island communities mean out of desperation people might believe these headlines. However we should realise that this government so suddenly are putting headlines in the local newspapers and their own TV/ Radio channels once again about building the infamous “Flats, apartments and Houses” in their thousands in order to win the Councils. Therefore we should not allow ourselves be hoodwinked by these media broadcasts made by the ruling party in the eve of the Council Elections. No way!!!
Although experts of democracy refer to the Media as the fourth pillar of democracy, if that media is claimed and controlled by a highly authoritarian government they will use it to hoodwink the people and if the people let themselves be fooled in this manner they will invite their own doom and destruction. It is due to the important role of the media, particularly the role it plays as a huge influencing factor that Dictatorships put an assertive control over free media. These people manipulated the free media established by Former government to come to power and are now using the controlled media they put under key and locks to win the upcoming election too. We should not let this happen.
Governments, and leaderships with a lot to hide often develop a phobia of free media and hurry to claim it as soon as they get the chance to come to power. Democratic experts state that the Media is the fourth pillar of democracy that educates the people, inform them and also allow them to seek democratic change therefore a control over the media is vital for autocratic leaderships to continue their power. Under dictatorial systems the leaders often go above and beyond to use the media as it can hugely compensate for people to choose the rulers political preferences. It is absolutely wrong for governments to control media and use it to spread self adulation and propaganda , and we should be careful not to get influenced in the wrong way. We have to give a deaf ear to the MDP propaganda in order to save ourselves from the trap of becoming MDP puppets. We should never let ourselves be trapped in such a vicious cycle of political control. Not now!! Not ever!!!
We are facing large obstacles and our country is facing sever economic and social problems. At the expense of few headlines and few shows of laying foundation to a couple of apartment buildings in a couple of islands if we vote for the current government’s candidates then we will be losing an opportunity to put things right, and get things really done for ourselves and our communities.
The reality is we are economically deprived so badly under this government that we no longer can even meet our basic needs. We have to pay sky high prices to good and services therefore are unable to access any. Our salaries are reduced and some of us have been sacked from our jobs so that the President can employ more loyalists on a daily basis. They already get employment from the President and it is time to bring others with alternative political views to the decision making tables for democracy to work.
Do not vote for the ruling party candidates but vote for those that are willing to fight hard for our communities, our islands, our atolls. The MDP candidates; voting them means this curse we are under will continue to deepen as they will only work to maintain the power of the ruling party and their master by doing what they can in shutting our mouth and commanding our obedience, without any consideration.
It is only by voting candidates from other parties we can even forcefully get something for our islands and communities done, as they have nothing to lose only to gain by pleasing the people, unlike the MDP candidates. Do not get bullied into voting for the MDP. This is your right and the one chance you get to put alternative political
