The “F’s” the current MDP and Mohamed Nasheed’s government have in store for women indicate the regard they have for women rights and freedom

The basic rights and freedom enjoyed by the Maldivian women during the 30 years of President Maumoon was brought to an abrupt end by the new government of MDP and President Nasheed. However at every international platform this government tries to defend themselves and hide their attitude towards women and the truth about the extreme vendettas they carry against women in general. The fact that; as soon as coming to power this government got rid of the Gender Ministry and also that there is only one woman in the Cabinet and that woman happens to be the President’s very own uncles’ wife speaks for itself.
Putting equality of employment and opportunities aside; women are forbidden from exercising their freedom of thought and expression under the government of MDP and President Nasheed. The few that try to exercise their entitlements given by the freedom of expression law of the Maldives Constitution receive abuse from none other than the very top echelon of the MDP government and President Nasheed himself. We say so because many times he himself encourages such acts by displaying on his Facebook fan page bigotry and perverse comments his fans write to abuse women with opinions into silence. Abuse remain systematic and widespread under the MDP and President Nasheed’s narcissist state and the daily verbal abuse that we receive on this blog alone (that we delete as spam comments come from IP addresses that belong to services that the President himself enjoys a close connection with) reveals the truth.
The plight of women inside the country are worse. One woman who mustered the courage to appear as a witness against the atrocities of this government had her house burned down to ashes.
When it comes to the few women that toiled all their life to get a decent level of education, they now fill the streets of the Maldives Capital unemployed, because this government denounces them and prefers to employ male activists who will commit crimes on their behalf. The few educated women in the country that refuse to pledge their loyalty to MDP sit idle at home, while technical posts in their field of expertise are filled by uneducated activists leaving all sectors of the Maldives Public services including heath and education in limbo within a matter of just two years.
On the other hand men who follow extremist forms of Islam dictated by their own principles make the life of every woman who refuse to wear the garb they expect them to wear and lower their eyes in submissive slavery; hell by making sure they abuse them in every way possible. Since the spread of extremism in the Maldives women who do not follow their methods are treated worse than prostitutes.
One would have thought that having a Western educated President will improve the condition of women, however apparently it is worse than before. President Nasheed is the man who trust the uneducated male activists of his party who follow the tradition of repressing women and treat them as secondary citizens, assign the women in the Maldives communities to a fate worse than the days of the Sultanate.
Discrimination of women under President Nasheed and MDP.
1. 99 percent of men fill the top posts of President Nasheed and his Party MDP’s government when under President Maumoon 30 percent of women were included in top government jobs.
2. Zero percent of women are given the chance to pursue graduate education abroad.
3. Hundred percent of women who bare children out of wedlock gets flogged while the 100 percent men who father the children walks free.
4. Women who try to rise above the discrimination within their communities controlled by the activist Councillors employed by the President as political appointees get defamed, physically and verbally abused.
5. 99.9 of the nations sexual violence is committed against women, including violent rape
6. Due to lack of employment opportunities for women 90 percent of women opt for marriage at a young age without pursuing any kind of higher education.
Women’s rights that were at the forefront of Former President HE Maumoon’s government have taken a back-seat under the government of President Nasheed and MDP. Steps are taken by the activists employed by President Mohamed Nasheed and top party officials to treat women to extreme lows and the dog days of women that began with President Nasheed’s arrival continues as we speak; despite of the colourful talks by the handful of decorative women cronies he uses to hide the apparent truth from the international community including developed nations and donor organisations. The derogatory, narcissist bigotry comments we receive are too vulgar to publish here, but reveal the truth about the regard this President, his party MDP and his supporters really have for the female half of the Maldives population and anyone that tries to rise above the ill fate they have in store for the Maldivian women.
